Our Philanthropic Focus
A Helping Hand.
The motto of Theta Chi is "Lend A Helping Hand", which perfectly defines the approach we take to philanthropy. Historically, we have been consistent participants in the philanthropies of other houses on campus. However, more recently, we have taken an active role in creating, organizing & executing our own philanthropy.
A brother of our chapter, Kyle Charvat, fought a long, arduous battle with brain cancer over the past 3+ years. His treatment options were limited, so he had to rely on experimental procedures to help him fight his tumor. As many of you know, insurance consideration & coverage gets tricky when it comes to experimental treatments - most often, they don't pay for it.
The active chapter knew Kyle needed help - and stepped up in a major way. Before the fad had grown to the scale it has reached today, they designed a red bracelet with Kyle's initials & the inscription "A Helping Hand." Through the generous donations of active members, alumni, parents, sororities, fraternities & hundreds of others, we were able to raise in excess of $100,000 to help fund Kyle's treatment.
Our objective is to carry on Kyle's spirit & legacy through support of a Foundation that is being created in his name. We have a number of fundraising events planned for the Spring of 2006 - all of which will go to support the Foundation. Coming together as a house to help those in need of "a helping hand" is an key part of life at Theta Chi.
