Our Approach to Academics.
The bar has been raised.
It goes without saying that the admission standards bar has "been raised" significantly at UW over the past several years. Each year, we see the collective GPA & SAT scores of the incoming freshmen class increase. Course work has become increasingly demanding - students are focusing earlier & more intensely on their major - all of which can be a big change from high school.
At Theta Chi, we have a structured program to make the transition smooth. We have standing, set times that the members of the house head to campus to study, meet with groups & help tutor each other. We strictly enforce our minimum academic achievement (GPA) requirement each quarter for active members, and help ensure that new members are on track to meet the initiation GPA requirement.
Time to get serious.
During final exam periods, we maintain mandatory quiet hours at the house & our Parent's Club provides "study treats" to keep everyone energized & focused on the books. Its a common sight to have groups of brothers quizzing each other in the house library before heading off to ace their test - adding a level of camaraderie & support that each enjoys.
Perhaps best of all though - we have 100+ active members studying subjects from business to architecture - chemistry to forestry - computer science to math. The knowledge base of the members of the house is powerful & there is a constant willingness to help each other out. This is a resource that has helped many members decide on a course of study, as well as enhanced the success of their academic pursuits along the way.
